Quick catch up
I’m not about to claim to have this Euro travel all figured out, but man, was that trip a breeze! A lot of things really worked out for our recent World Cup trip and I’d like to take a moment to be thankful for things that went right – since, in the life of a bike racer, things don’t always go as smoothly as we planned.
Here it is:
1) Props to Jon Rourke, our team manager for having a talk with the Icelandic Volcano god and booking our flight out of the states for Wednesday – the first day in nearly a week that British airspace was open
2) Thanks to the Gary Fisher program and staff for getting us team Superfly 29ers for Europe – no traveling with bikes, building and packing, paying exorbitant baggage fees, hauling them through airports and train stations? “Say What!” Awww, yeah.
3) Merci to the sleep fairies – I had three near perfect nights of heavy sleep upon arriving to Europe, sans sleeping pills! No, this has NEVER, EVER happened to me before. Not sure if I’ll score again, but I’ll take it when I get it….it’s almost like I’ve been on Euro time these past few months…or maybe I was just that tired.
4) Sweetness on my start at the first World Cup: lined up on the 3rd row but used the force and found my way to the front of the race within seconds of the gun going off. Comfortably led the first lap and rode between the top 3 to 5 through lap 5. Once I get my nutrition figured out and avoid getting stomach cramps and leg cramps on the third lap…well, look out!
Anyway, now I'm back in Boulder for nearly 2.5 weeks before heading back over for the 3rd World Cup in Offenburg, Germany where I'll get to line up on the 2nd row given my 12th place overall World Cup ranking. I'm really stoked with how the season is going so far and really excited for 2010 - JUST GETTING STARTED!
2010, so far has been sweet: after taking the bronze at the Pan American Championships, I headed to Sea Otter where the team had a great (official) kick off – Jeremy, Willow and I had the red carpet (literally) treatment at the SRAM XX launch, we got to check out some sweet new developments in wheels and shoes at the Bontrager launch and had a great dinner with our individual sponsor, FRS Energy.
